Micro, Small, & Medium Enterprises (MSME) registration is an optional registration under the Micro, Small, & Medium Enterprises Development Act (MSMED) that provides micro, small and medium sized enterprises with a provide colossal benefits and access to various subsidies as well as schemes. Every type of business entity, including one-person company, proprietorship, partnership firm, manufacturer, producer, limited company, private limited company, limited liability partnership firm, co-operative societies, any association of individuals, retailors, Hindu Undivided Family, or any other undertaking can apply for MSME registration.

MSME registration is valid for an indefinite period as long as the business is running. There is no need for the renewal of the MSME certificate.

What are the benefits of MSME registration?

Enterprises registered under MSMEs are eligible for various benefits from the Government of India, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), etc. It includes subsidies, incentives, credit facilities from banks, and protection against delayed payments by buyers of goods/services.

Can traders be registered under MSME?

Traders may be allowed to register as MSME under the MSMED Act, 2006 through Udyog Aadhaar Registration. This will help a big group of Traders to get benefits under MSME. Soon Medium Enterprises will also get the use of Protection against Payments (Delayed Payments).

Which scheme does the Ministry have for providing marketing support to MSMEs?

The Ministry implements the Marketing Assistance scheme through National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Limited for providing marketing support to MSMEs.

Whether there is any scheme for assisting MSMEs with Intellectual Property Rights?

Under the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP) to enhance the competitiveness of the SMEs sector, O/o DC (MSME) is implementing a scheme “Building Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” for the MSME. The objective of the scheme is to enhance the awareness of MSME about Intellectual Property Rights.

Is credit rating mandatory for MSE borrowers?

Credit rating is not mandatory, but it is in the interest of the MSE borrowers to get their credit rating done as it would help in credit pricing, cost of funds (interest and other charges, etc.), and loans taken by them from banks

When will the MSME registration certificate be issued?

An MSME registration certificate will be issued within one or two working days by email after filing an online MSME application form.
